Band "A" / Show Backing Sideman:

Playing behind live stage shows and/or with "Click Track Recordings" for revue shows. Must be a good sight reader of commercial music styles, must have good intonation, must have a thorough understanding of phrasing and popular music interpretation, must have a general knowledge of standard dance tunes, must be proficient with required instrument "doubles" such as sax players doubling on clarinet, flute and trumpet doubling on flugelhorn.

Minimum requirements: Strong performance background jazz, classical from an accredited college university music program. Having worked for either a leading cruise line, theme parks, Branson, Vegas, Atlantic City, Name Road bands, Broadway Shows.

Band "B" and Dance Band Sideman:

Moderate to good sight reading ability for reading dance band arrangements and Cruise Staff Cocktail shows, have a background of "standard songs" from the 40's to the present as well as Ballroom dance tunes/styles such as Rhumba, Waltzes, Tangos, Fox-trots, Cha Chas, etc. An ability to play jazz improvisation to embellish lead sheet music performances as well as playing jazz solos to expand on the basic song rendition. Must have a broad knowledge of dance band song forms and how to play "medley style" from memory or lead sheets or a combination of both. Instrument "doubles" are not a must in all situations but preferred: sax, clarinet, flute, trumpet and flugelhorn. Doubling as a vocalist in the Dance band song styles is a tremendous asset, in addition to playing an instrument (i.e. the songs of Gershwin, Porter, in the style of Sinatra, Torme, etc.).

Minimum Requirements: Strong performance background Jazz, classical from an accredited college university music program. Strong background in professional dance band settings. Strong background in jazz improvisation, have dance band experience either from other leading cruise lines, theme parks, Branson, Vegas, Atlantic City, Name "ghost bands", strong background in "Club date" or similar style bands.
