Second Engineer – Power Plant

PURPOSE

BASIC FUNCTION: 2nd Engineer Power Plant has the overall responsibility for assisting the Chief Engineer Jr. with the maintenance and repair (including but not limited to the systems outlined below) and in this respect is directly subordinate to him.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• He shall be thoroughly familiar with all company environmental policies.
• He shall work in full cooperation with his superiors and subordinates to ensure compliance with directives to safeguard the environment.
• He shall immediately and directly inform the Chief Engineer whenever and environmental system is improperly functioning and shall always strive to ensure that all environmental systems within his department are operated and maintained to company standards.
• The Power Plant Engineer should be familiar with all shipboard machinery and equipment and have the background of a 2nd Engineer with Watch-keeping duties.

DUTIES INCLUDE:

Checking of Propulsion Plant performance, such items as:

• Monitoring and Maintenance of Azipods and Fixipod
• Monitoring and Maintenance of Azipods and Fixipod Auxiliaries
• Monitoring and Maintenance of Steering System – Hydraulic Units
• Monitoring and Maintenance of Azipods and Fixipod Equipment
• Checking the overall condition of Propulsion Plant in cooperation with Chief Electrician.
• Lube Oil Management:
  Checking of Lube Oil Condition such as: viscosity, water in oil, particles count, wear metals, by:
• Sampling
• Send samples for analysis
• Collect MetalSCAN Data and Send Data for evaluation
• Prepare Reports
• Vibration based condition management
• Collect Data
• Send Data for Evaluation
• Prepare Reports


• Work with the Propulsion Plant and its performance in cooperation with Chief Engineer and Chief Electrician.


• Perform and record measurements using the APIS system in cooperation with Chief Electrician.


• Participation in development of Pod Operational Procedures


• Training ECR and Navigation officers.


• Assisting Chief Engineer Jr. and 1st Engineer to monitor and record condition of Power plant.


• Additional routines and works as assigned by the Chief Engineer

DAILY TASKS INCLUDE:

• Monitoring the overall condition of Propulsion Plant in cooperation with Chief Engineer and Chief Electrician
• Following up on maintenance jobs

WEEKLY TASKS CAN INCLUDE:

• Lube Oil Sampling and sending samples for analysis
• Lube Oil Sampling and analyze with Ship’s equipment.
• Collect MetalSCAN Data and Send Data for Evaluation.
• Collect X1 vibration measurement data and send data for evaluation.
• Collect SwanTECH data and send data for evaluation.
• Following up on maintenance jobs
