Golf Professional

Purpose

To run on board golf program including giving for fee lessons, free clinics, escorting all organized golf excursions and performing other related golf duties.  This position requires all the skills necessary to ensure a highly sociable atmosphere for the golfing guests at all times. 

The position assists in all aspects of the golf program.

  • Always maintain a professional appearance and provide a friendly smile and greeting to all guests at all times.
  • Proper golf attire should be worn during the day with a nametag and appropriate attire in the evening based on the ship’s recommendation for guests. No jeans are permitted and minimum standard on board is sports coat on casual nights, jacket and tie on informal nights and dark suit or tuxedo on formal nights.
  • Always be in correct attire and follow all ship’s rules and regulations as specified.
  • Attend any and all scheduled meetings on time as requested.
  • Be at least 15 minutes early for all scheduled duties.
  • Socialize with guests continuously throughout the cruise and at all times try to create a positive cruise experience for them.
  • Coordinate and host free golf clinics and golf tournaments (i.e. putting competition, closest to the pin, golf-driving etc).
  • Maintain the golf simulator (excepting Zenith and Horizon) and or golf net and report all malfunctions to cruise director ASAP.
  • Maintain an up to date inventory of all Callaway rental clubs and generic golf clubs, golf balls, rubberized tees etc.
  • Request replacement generic golf clubs through Assistant Cruise Director.
  • Return all broken Callaway golf clubs to Miami head office for repair, Attention Manager or Specialist, Cruise Programs.
  • Offer golf lessons for fee to interested guests.
  • Work with cruise director and program coordinator to promote golf program.
  • File weekly golf report including all aspects of golf program.
  • Prepare copious hand over notes for incoming golf pro to ensure all aspects of the golf program are covered and no significant drop off results.
  • Be knowledgeable of all general information concerning the ship’s operation to be able to accommodate, answer and recommend any guest inquiries.
  • Attend and participate in all mandatory guest and crew lifeboat safety drills as scheduled.
  • Compensation includes commission on golf lesson fee, $10 per golfer on golf excursion, $10 per club rental for most itineraries.
  • Performs related duties as required with or without accommodation.
  • Accommodation is one double staff cabin to share.

Hiring Requirements

Following are the related hiring requirements for this position:

  • Experience in teaching single, group and junior golfers.
  • Certified teaching professional with CGTF or USGTF preferred.
  • Associate degree in Golf Management preferred.
  • Single digit handicap
  • Proficient in video analysis and other teaching aids.
  • Able to plan and implement golf seminars and tournaments.
  • Ability to speak and read English. Additional languages a plus.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret procedure manuals and memos,
  • technical procedures and governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure letters. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of employees and guests.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, etc.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables where only a limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk, sing and hear; and taste and smell. In the event of an emergency the employee may be required to sit, stoop, kneel or crawl.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities of this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job the employee at times works in outside weather conditions that are extreme. These include exposure to wet and/or humid conditions.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
All shipboard employees must be physically able to participate in emergency life procedures and drills. Full use/range of motion of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal and hearing abilities are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency requiring the lowering of a life boat.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Individual must possess strong written, oral communication and customer service skills and be able to work under pressure and communicate effectively with all levels of management and employees.  Computer skills with associated software, Microsoft Office applications and email required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to speak and read English.  Additional languages a plus.  Ability to analyze and interpret procedure manuals and memos, technical procedures and governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure letters.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of employees and guests.
